Dani got me my outboard motor about nine years ago, and it is still going. These things are fantastic for using in the soup pot on the stove to make something creamy without getting another pot dirty or having to worry about blender explosions (although with the Vitamix, I have yet to have a crazy hot liquid problem in my blender, but I hear it happens). I also use the handy food processor bowl for making hummus and other things that I can then store in the fridge (tofu puddings are a common use for that bowl). It's great for whipping up quick salsas, too, or blending all of the wet ingredients for seitan sausage.
You are surely not surprised to find my trusty Vitamix on here, are you? Whether it is making smoothies or whipping up a batch of coconut butter, this little gizmo always does the job well. You've already seen it in posts on how to make almond and coconut milk, I bet. While this is an investment, if you are going to a low fat plant based diet, do consider investing in a high powered blender. Vitamix has refurbished ones with great warranty periods on them, so you can save a bit there. I've heard great things about Blend Tec and Ninja blenders, too, and sometimes you can get a great deal on them. Trust me, you'll use it far more than you can imagine.
I use a lot of lemon and lime juice in my kitchen, and one of these babies makes it easy to squeeze every last drop and without the worries of seeds. I bought mine at a local store when I got it, and it's one of those tools that I never imagined I would use as often as I do. It certainly beats using a fork or reamer! I've linked the picture to the left to the Amazon listing for these.
My current kitchen love goes to my new GoWise USA 6-in-1 Cooker: This thing is a pressure cooker, a slow cooker, and a steamer. It has a browning function, too, so you can brown your onions before setting it to cook something slow or fast. Also, you can program it to start cooking later (so you can load it in the morning and set it to start cooking later in the day.
This was a Christmas gift from my buddy, Joe Walker, and I know I'm going to have a lot of fun with this over 2014. I will be making the New Years Black Eyed Peas in this thing for my New South Falafel!
